Flipping the Tables on Male/Female Communication

We have been very busy building over a dozen new categories of Birthday ecards for our customers. A lot of them categorize the men and women in our lives, like, ecards for Mom & ecards for Dad, for husband & wife, boyfriend & girlfriend, and so on. This made us remember an interesting point in an article a we recently read:

“If women have a disagreement with each other it affects all aspects of their relationship. Men can have a disagreement, move on to another subject and go get a drink together.”

Now, men aren’t always known for being super communicative when it comes to their feelings. They could stand to polish up on their interpersonal skills.

But that little quote got us thinking: what if women could stand a little break from being so communicative and take a lesson from the guy?

What if:

Women wrestled the next time they got in an argument with one another? Take it to the mat. Got physical instead of verbal. It would definitely save on cell phone minutes.

Women shut down completely and retreated to her respective cave? Men often expect women to initiate a lengthy, emotionally charged conversation. But what if she said, “Forget this. I’m out!” stormed off, went to the local bar and watched the game?

Women responded to every complaint with a hearty “You’re too sensitive”? Many women have been on the receiving end of this comment but what if they started doling it out, in just about any circumstance?

“Tina, I just want you to know how much I love spending time with you.”

“Man, you are so sensitive.”

What? I thought you’d like to hear that.”

“Wow. You’re really making me feel caged in. Give me some breathing room.”

“But I…”

“See? That’s what I’m talking about. Sensitive.”

Okay, we know…were generalizing. But our point is this: maybe there’s a time to shut down, retreat and go grab a beer at the local dive bar. Maybe there’s a time to go inward and just let an argument go, without any need to fix or repair it? Men and women have interpersonal advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes swapping skills could provide some answers or at least a fresh perspective, who knows?

One thing both sexes have in common: appreciation for gifts. We now have birthday cards for her and birthday e-cards for him as part of our wide selection of free birthday e-cards that make your loved one feel loved.

And just like love, you can give them for free!

Father’s Day for the Dadless

For some, Father’s Day can be tough, especially if you don’t have a parent around to share in the celebrations. Maybe you don’t talk anymore or maybe he’s passed on.

It may feel like everyone seems to have a Dad in place to give their gifts and send their Father’s day ecards to and you’re left with a feeling of longing and sadness.

Here are few pointers for the people who may be without a father this holiday:

  •  Appreciate the others in your life. At its core, Father’s Day is about honoring the presence of someone you love. Why not focus on the people who are in your life and how they matter? Send them funny e-cards or give them a call. Tell them how they have been a blessing to you. Or what about someone father-like in your life? Reach out and give thanks to teachers, mentors and older male friends. Certainly you can celebrate friends or relatives who are fathers themselves.
  •  Don’t let death get in the way. Just because your father may have passed on doesn’t mean he’s not still your father. Spend some time to review the many ways he has made you who you are today. Send him good wishes, wherever he may be. Pull out some photos and put them around your home. Light some candles in his honor. Wish him aloud a Happy Father’s Day.
  •  Make some peace. If you and your father no longer speak or there’s some long-held tension, what can you do to create some harmony this Father’s Day? Write a letter detailing your feelings, regardless of whether you send it. Focus on the ways he did contribute to your life. Note the similarities between the two of you–ones that you genuinely like. Father’s Day is a good time to look at those in-between places, where you can bridge that gap, even just a little.

We understand holidays can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. And we hope you can celebrate your father in the best way possible this year, whatever that means to you.

The Best Fictional Dads Ever

Yes, yes, we know: your dad is clearly the best dad ever. But who’s your favorite fictional daddy?

You know the one: he says just the right thing at just the right time. He’s stern but loving, kind yet wise. He makes you laugh after you’ve scuffed your knee and buys you ice cream just when you need it (even if you’re 42). He also hugs very well and lends you copious amounts of money with no strings attached.

Here’s our list of fictional dads definitely worth sending a Father’s Day e-card.

Who would you like to add to the list?

  1. Pa Ingalls of The Little House on the Prairie
  2. Atticus Finch of To Kill a Mockingbird
  3. Coach Eric Taylor from Friday Night Lights
  4. Tommy Lee Jones
  5. Gandalf of Lord of the Rings (really welcoming beard)
  6. Jesus (really welcoming beard and knows people in high places)
  7. Darth Vadar (for those who like the strict, disciplinarian father type)
  8. The song “Father Figure
  9. Mike Brady of The Brady Bunch
  10. Prince Charles (for purely financial reasons)
  11. Ward Cleaver of Leave it to Beaver (for the baby boomers)
  12. Michael Bluth of Arrested Development (for purely comical reasons)
  13. The Godfather of The Godfather (who’s gonna mess with you?)
  14. Antonio Ricci of The Bicycle Thief
  15. George McFly of Back to the Future (sure, a bit ineffectual at times but sweet.)
  16. Gomez Addams of The Addams Family (for the eccentric types)

Well, back to reality. Father’s Day is just around the corner and one way to make your real dad’s day special is sending him a free animated Father’s Day e-card. We have a wide array of funny Father’s Day e-cards to choose from, so take a look around and pick one that suits your dad just right.

This Father’s Day, Why Let Dad Foot the Bill

Here at the Doozy headquarters, we are polishing your Father’s Day ecards vigorously for this Sunday. We are aware that some people still use that antiquated technology to reach their fathers on the big day: the telephone. Then we heard something about telephones and Father’s Day that we thought just had to be an urban myth of some sort…but alas, it’s true:

More collect phone calls are made on Father’s Day than on any other day of the year.

Oh poor Dad…why?

According to Snopes:

Dr. Brenda Wall, a family psychologist in Dallas, Texas, postulates, “We have a different sociological response to our parents that is gender and role-related. We’ve always looked to mom for love and nurturing. But when we look to dad, it’s usually a business transaction or something that relates to power, positioning, or money.”

We tried to think of a few possible collect call scenarios:

“This is a collect call from John Smith to John Smith, Sr. Will you accept the charges?”

“Yes.”

“Dad. Hi. Just wanted to wish you a Happy Father’s Day. I was going to buy you a nice gift, I swear. But the strangest thing happened. I saw this nun crying by the side of the road. I pulled over to see if I could help. Apparently her convent had burned down last night and she had nowhere to live! What was I to do? I put her up in a hotel (along with her kitten, St. Fuzzy) and now I’m flat broke until my next paycheck. Anyway, Happy Father’s Day, Dad.”

Or maybe:

“This is a collect call from John Smith to John Smith, Sr. Will you accept the charges?”

“Yes.”

“Dad. Hi. Just wanted to wish you a Happy Father’s Day. I was going to buy you a nice gift, I swear. But the strangest thing happened. My money disappeared. I mean, right before my very eyes. I went to this magic show and the magician asked me for my wallet. He did this abracadabra thing and boom! My wallet was gone. Conveniently he did his disappearing act right after that. Obviously a shyster of some sort. Anyway, Happy Father’s Day, Dad.”

We’d suggest that instead of having dad foot the bill this Father’s Day, you send  free Father’s Day e-cards. We have a wide array of funny Father’s Day ecards at your disposal. No awkward excuses necessary.
